The latest instalment of Industry Insider sees us speak to Sam Morgan, a freelance content creator about his career in sport.

Tell us about yourself, what do you do in your current role and what roles have you done previously?

I’m Sam Morgan and I’m currently a freelance content creator. I produce content across a number of sports and sporting events.

What three words would you use to describe your role?

Fast, fun and exciting.

“Normal” isn’t a thing in sport so what does an “average” week look like for you?

Glued to my phone for news, whilst attached to my laptop editing, on top of attending events.

Interviewing those who we all see but also those in the background that make the different sports accessible to everyone.

How did you end up where you are right now? When did you know you wanted to work in sport?

I used to play football at a good level and what sport has given me in life are the foundations of who I am and wanted to always play sport back for that.

A friend of mine took me on a journey that opened up some doors for what I do now and am forever grateful for that.

What is your number one focus when it comes to your work?

Asking the questions we actually want to get the answers on and give more insights to fans and spectators on some of their favourite sporting personalities.

What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?

Networking is key and not everyone on the same journey gets to the destination at the same time so stay hungry and humble.

What are you excited about in your industry at the moment?

The work I’ve seen from organisations to give opportunities to those that didn’t think they had a chance is amazing whilst I’m really enjoying the instant content from those on social media platforms.

If you could change one thing about your Industry, what would you change?

I think it’s for certain areas of the industry to not be afraid of letting talent express themselves a bit more, sometimes I think we can be restrictive.

Sport is a hectic industry, what do you do to switch off?

Spending time with my family, my wife and my daughter keep me busy but one of my releases is where I manage a Non-League football team so can’t get away from sport.

If you were to give a piece of advice to someone wanting to do your role, what would you say?

Same advice I still get. Don’t stop, do more than those you inspire to be.
