Responsibilities

The Chief of Staff is a newly-created role directly supporting the CEO to implement the vision and strategy of the organisation. It is a critical role that will enable the CEO to focus more externally on driving the organisation forward.

As our Chief of Staff, you will be the key link between the CEO of Six Nations Rugby Ltd, and the Executive and the wider shareholder group consisting of our six Unions and CVC. An understanding of the wider rugby family is also important for this role, especially relations with SANZAAR and its Southern hemisphere unions (South Africa (SARU), New Zealand (NZRU), Australia (RA) and Argentina (ARU)), but also World Rugby, the global governing body, and Rugby Europe, which oversees the interest of the game’s Emerging Nations across Europe.

Working closely with the CEO the candidate will be the link between the CEO’s office and the Executive team and to the Board. The role will have the responsibility to ensure that the strategy of the organisation is being accurately delivered and timelines for key projects are met.

The structure of Rugby union is a complex with many stakeholders and governing bodies around the Six Nations table. The role must seek a way to find consensus across the Six Nations group to ensure that plans are firstly adopted and then, crucially delivered.

As Chief of Staff; your key responsibility will be to drive the CEO’s strategy for the organisation and thus you will be entrusted with highly sensitive and valuable information which you will be expected to treat with the utmost confidentiality. Trust and understanding between CEO and COS and the wider Executive team are critical components as a successful team operating at a high level in a strategically led organisation.

Ensuring we have effective ways of working with unions will be a key responsibility for the Chief of Staff to oversee to ensure the game can move forward at a time when it needs to keep pace with its competition in the entertainment and media space.

The ideal candidate for this role will should be comfortable interacting across the organisation at all levels, including with the senior executive team and Board members, as well as building relationships with and delivering alongside external partners and stakeholders. The successful candidate will be dealing with complex issues and will need to empathise with different perspectives and cultures.
