The SportsBiz Spotlight series returns with another brilliant guest! We’re sitting down with David Johnson, Director of Sports Hub Video to learn more about their business!

Sports Hub VIdeo

Tell us about the business? What does Sports Hub Video do?

Sports Hub Video is a platform that provides a constant stream of ‘video only’ sports content. We offer a diverse range of highlights for Boxing, the NFL, NBA & FIBA Basketball, Gallagher Premiership (Rugby Union), Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and International Tennis events.

In addition to our highlights package, we offer a variety of sports content including panel shows, fact-based content, press conference coverage and feature length interviews.

Our feature length interviews dig deep into the world of sport and range from former IBF World Champion Darren Barker, through to six-time Snooker World Champion Steve Davis to ex-Fulham & West Ham star, Paul Konchesky.

In a huge year for British sport, we were delighted to recently meet and interview British Athletics great & six-time Paralympic Gold medallist David Weir, as well as Team GB Hockey stars, Sarah Evans & Brendan Creed. We wish all three every success at their respective Games in Tokyo this summer.

When was it founded?

The idea for Sports Hub Video was born on the beaches of Koh Lipe, Thailand in 2019. My business partner, Bradley Rees, and I can often be found debating a variety of sports and media ‘Hot Topics’. We felt there was a gap in the market for a platform that stopped the talking and writing and got down to showing the action.

In October 2020, the business went live, and we are delighted with how we are progressing and the feedback we have received from sports fans and athletes alike.

What’s the main purpose of the organisation?

As sports fans, the action from around the world is never-ending. There are thousands of amazing written articles where you can read about what happened in a game, fight or race.

Sports Hub Video’s purpose is to be a one-stop platform, where sports fans can drop in and immediately catch the action via a short video clip , interview, or preview/review show.

If failure wasn’t a possibility, what would be your biggest ambition?

In a world of so many amazing sports outlets, we would love to become a trusted and frequently-used platform. Our ambitions are varied, but in time we are looking to secure broadcasting rights for some of the niche sports that you don’t get to see too often on terrestrial TV.

What’s your USP?

We are a video only platform. Don’t read about it… watch it!

How many people work at Sports Hub Video and in what capacity?

We are a team of 4 currently and are hoping to increase this with a Developer and a Social Media & Marketing expert, in time.

Who are your usual clients?

In short, everyone! Sports Hub Video is for anyone interested in consuming sports content around the world. But we can break our clients down into two groups…

We of course have the athletes that you follow in your preferred sports. From Grace Sullivan, the Surrey Storm Netball player to Fabio Wardley, the up & coming Matchroom Sport boxer.

And then we have our true clients: the viewers. We take our content delivery seriously and hope that we continue to be viewed as a trusted platform to those that use it.

Who would be your dream client?

The list of dream interviewees is extremely long for the team at Sports Hub Video!

To give you an insight into some of the names thrown around in SHV Towers… we would love to speak with people such as Sugar Ray Leonard (Boxing), Serena Williams (Tennis), Eddie Hearn (Boxing promoter), Lennox Lewis (Boxing), Jessica Ennis-Hill (Athletics), Harry Redknapp (Football manager), Justin Rose (Golf), & Katie Taylor (Boxing).

The list is never-ending, and in case any of the above happen to read this… There is no hierarchy in my answer 😊

How can people connect with Sports Hub Video? What’s your website and socials?

Our platform can be found at www.sportshubvideo.com and our social media platforms all use @SportsHubVideo

We would love to hear from fans of all sports!
