Sports partnerships have never been more visible.

From front-of-shirt sponsorships and branded content series to fan experiences and digital activations, brands are investing heavily in sport as they look to reach audiences in more meaningful ways.

Yet despite that investment, many partnerships still struggle to demonstrate their full value.

According to Trunk, the issue is rarely the partnership itself. More often, it’s what happens after the deal is signed.

The agency has launched PartnerAmp, a new strategic offer designed to help brands, clubs and rights holders connect partnership activity to wider business objectives, marketing priorities and long-term commercial goals.

Developed following 12 months of research and conversations with organisations across the sports industry, PartnerAmp has been built around a simple premise: visibility alone is no longer enough.

Moving beyond logos and exposure

For many organisations, partnerships still begin and end with awareness metrics.

A logo appears on a shirt, a brand gains visibility through matchday assets, and activation campaigns are delivered throughout the season. While these elements remain important, Trunk believes too many partnerships operate in isolation from the wider business strategy.

Speaking about the launch, Trunk Chief Creative Officer Adam Britton (@AdamTheCCO) said the agency repeatedly encountered partnerships with significant potential but little connection to broader organisational goals.

“Too many sports partnerships are still expected to deliver value simply because the logo is there. The reality is that the real opportunity starts when partnerships are treated as part of the wider business and marketing strategy.”

The challenge, according to Trunk’s research, is that partnerships often become reactive rather than strategic. Activity takes place, content is produced and rights are activated, but there is limited alignment between partnership delivery, marketing priorities and business outcomes.

Introducing the Partnership Health Score

At the centre of the PartnerAmp launch is the Partnership Health Score, a free assessment designed to help organisations evaluate how effectively their partnerships are currently performing.

The assessment provides users with an overall score alongside insights across three areas:

  • Fan Value
  • Alignment
  • Strategic Edge

The aim is to help brands and rights holders identify where partnerships are underpowered, where assumptions should be challenged and where stronger strategic thinking could unlock greater value.

It’s a reflection of a wider trend emerging across the sports industry, where stakeholders are increasingly being asked to justify investment, demonstrate impact and prove commercial return.

Three levels of strategic support

PartnerAmp is structured across three service levels, each designed to support organisations at different stages of their partnership journey.

  • The Power Play focuses on diagnosing partnership performance and identifying strategic gaps.
  • The Game Changer provides a blueprint designed to strengthen activation, alignment and commercial effectiveness.
  • The Season Strategy offers ongoing support throughout the season to ensure partnerships remain connected to evolving business and marketing objectives.

Rather than treating sponsorship as a standalone function, the model aims to integrate partnerships more closely with wider organisational planning.

Why this matters

The launch comes at a time when sports partnerships face increasing scrutiny.

Brands are demanding clearer returns on investment. Rights holders are under pressure to deliver greater value to commercial partners. Marketing teams are being asked to do more with existing budgets.

As a result, the conversation around sponsorship is shifting from visibility towards effectiveness.

The organisations that gain the most value from partnerships are increasingly those that can connect activation to broader business outcomes, rather than simply measuring impressions and exposure.

PartnerAmp has been built to help organisations bridge that gap.

Whether it becomes a blueprint for a new generation of partnership strategy remains to be seen, but its launch highlights an increasingly important conversation across the sports industry: how partnerships can move from being visible to being genuinely valuable.
