Cape Verde’s Roberto Lopes and New Zealand’s Elijah Just were the standout performers in Gameweek 1 at the 2026 World Cup – and Be Your Best played a helping hand.
Be Your Best, a football technology company using virtual reality and cognitive science to help players train their decision-making and scanning, offered its services to over 250 players competing at the tournament.

Lopes, New Zealand debutants Ben Waine and Just, as well as Haiti’s all-time leading scorer Duckens Nazon will be using a Meta Quest headset with access to Be Your Best over the course of the six-week tournament.
Lopes, a former Dublin bank worker who was recruited on LinkedIn to play for the team, was in the heart of the defence that secured a stalemate against Spain, while Just scored twice in a 2-2 draw with Iran.
Be Your Best will compare the data from Lopes, Just, Waine and Nazon throughout the tournament against some of the world’s best players and share the results.
Against Iran, Just had 631 total scans which is more than Vitinha managed in the Champions League final (547). While against a possession dominating Spain, Lopes scanned the pitch 0.35 per second before receiving the ball, with Premier League centre backs averaging around 0.43.
Both players also had pass completion rates of over 80 per cent – Lopes managed 81 per cent, while Just managed 88 per cent. For context Portugal’s Vitinha is currently leading this stat with a 95.9 per cent pass completion rate.
Notably, Chelsea’s Romeo Lavia is an investor in Be Your Best, while Marc Guehi, Endrick, Dejan Kulusevski and Aurelien Tchouameni have all used the technology to enhance their game.
Be Your Best CEO Andreas Olsen said:
“We’re already seeing the importance of scanning and awareness at the highest level through performances of players like Elijah Just and Roberto Lopes. We’re proud to have played a small role in supporting their achievements.
“At Be Your Best, we believe that cognitive training is just as important as physical. Scanning, decision-making and awareness are all teachable skills that elevate a good player to a great one.
“We’re proud to support Ben, Elijah, Roberto and Duckens as they aim to make their countries proud, and so far they’ve delivered.
“We’ll be tracking their progress on the pitch and sharing further insights into how cognitive training can transform performance.”
